 | Saturday, September 20th, 2008: Furcal Out for 6 Days Rafael Furcal at first refused to leave today's San Diego-Los Angeles (N) game after he suffered a fractured finger while colliding with a player at a base. But his manager convinced him not to be foolish. "I'm a competitor," the feisty Los Angeles (N) shortstop said. "I'll play through just about anything." Given time to reflect on the situation, he knew it was in his best interest to get immediate treatment. The injury is expected to keep Furcal out of action for 6 days.

 | Friday, September 19th, 2008: Super Swinger! Cabrera Slams 5 Hits! It was high-5 day at U.S. Cellular Field, at least for Orlando Cabrera of the Chicago (A) White Sox. He got a lot of high-5's from his teammates for his outstanding hitting against the Oakland Athletics. Cabrera smashed 5 hits in 6 at-bats on a his record-setting day, leading his club to a 9-5 win.
His manager said, "Orlando was hitting everything. It really was a special game for him."
In the other dugout the opposing manager told SION beat writers, "He ambushed my boys today. Obviously we didn't have much success against him, but luckily, tomorrow is another day. Hopefully it will be our day to shine."
O. Cabrera singled in the 1st, hit an RBI single in the 2nd, tripled in the 4th, struck out in the 6th, singled in the 8th and hit a solo-shot off A. Claggett in the 9th.
So far this season Cabrera has 10 home runs and a .290 batting average. |
 | Friday, September 19th, 2008: Butler Goes 5-6 Against Toronto All game long Tampa Bay's Billy Butler was rattling the walls at Tropicana Field and banging out base hits against the Toronto Blue Jays. When the dust finally settled on the diamond, he had a 5-hit day and the Rays had a 15-3 victory.
Speaking with reporters after his standout performance, the 22-year-old designated hitter said, "Get 5 hits, win a ballgame, it's nice. I could get used to this."
B. Butler singled in the 2nd, hit a three-run home run off D. Rasner in the 3rd, flied out in the 5th, hit a two-run double in the 7th, hit a two-run double in the 8th and hit a three-run home run off B. Tallet in the 9th.
In 140 games this season Butler has batted at a .334 pace with 188 hits and 14 home runs. |
